I’ve always been drawn to things with history, character, and a story behind them.
Long before watches, my passion has taken many forms—from buying and restoring dirt bikes, to dealing in vintage Porsche parts, to sourcing vintage european sports cars. Through it all, I found an appreciation for the parts and details that make them special. That idea is where ArtofthePart comes from: the belief that sometimes a small detail is what makes the whole thing worth paying attention to.
That same curiosity eventually brought me to watches. I became fascinated by the things that distinguish one watch from another—the shape of a case, the texture of a dial, an unusual variation, or some small detail that might otherwise go unnoticed. What started as collecting and trading watches gradually became a career.
Most recently, I spent several years as a buyer for one of the country’s largest vintage watch retailers. Working on the buying side gave me the opportunity to handle a wide range of watches and collections, and, more importantly, taught me how to look at a watch beyond its reference number or market value. Condition, originality, proportions, details, and the overall character of a watch all matter. Ultimately, though, the question I keep coming back to is simple: is this a watch I’d want to own myself?
ArtofthePart is an extension of that approach. I want to offer watches that genuinely interest me, rather than simply building a collection for the sake of having inventory. The watches I buy tend to have something that catches my attention—a particular dial, a case shape, an unusual detail, or simply the way all of those things come together.
The Part Worth Knowing is where I share that perspective: the detail, characteristic, or bit of history that made me want the watch in the first place.
